I am always learningTeacher | World Citizen | Traveler
I am always trying to give more to the community that embraces me. At South Valley Academy I had the privilege to help create a BEMP program, cultivate young scientist and engineers through MESA, help future coders with Intels help, and of course get kids outside with the help of Valle de Oro. During my three years at Denver South High School I had the chance to coach softball, learn to teach Chemistry, Physics, and AP Physics. I also met great kids who helped us form a STEAM club; a cool place for cool science loving kids to hang out and build stuff. I am most grateful for the chance to teach Newcomer Science - This was by far the hardest class I have ever taught. It wasn't the subject that was difficult it was the constant reflecting and trying to figure out ways to reach my newcomer kids. There's a great book by Helen Thorpe called "The Newcomers" based on this awesome group of humans. These kids will forever be in my heart. https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/The-Newcomers/Helen-Thorpe/9781501159107 Also with Denver Public Schools, I had the chance to learn from Bill Penuel and the University of Colorado NGSS team. I am grateful to have learned directly from the experts. His Inquiry Hub is a great NGSS resource for new and experienced teachers. https://www.colorado.edu/education/inquiry-hub |
